From the same printers, Volume 7 covers Holt Deanery.  With over 500 colour photographs showing each of the coats of arms in its setting, often revealing new detail, and demonstrating the craftsmanship and artistry of the masons, sculptors, etchers, painters and stained glass constructors, and woodcarvers. Perhaps most of all, the sensitivity and artistic awareness of the individuals commissioning these works is demonstrated to full effect.

The book follows the same format: nearly A4 in size, 150 pages, with each church indexed to a facing page, the occasional extra page filled with interesting photographs. In this volume, drawings of the shields were omitted because the arms were shown in the photographs; the exception is for a group of shields described as being on a tomb of Dame Mirabel Heydon, now lost.  The extensive memorials in Melton Constable church are sorted and pictured in order, so that viewers will be able to follow the otherwise confusing sequence. So too are Cozens-Hardy memorials at Letheringsett, while the glorious stained glass of early Christianity in Norfolk, remembering the Saints and Martyrs, and the arms of the Abbeys, Monasteries and Priories which abounded in this part of the country, are in Blakeney church. Preview some of the articles and pictures in the HOLT DEANERY pages.

This volume,  price £15.00, again plus postage and packing, is only available direct from Ken Mourin, 13 Quebec Road, Dereham, Norfolk, NR19 2DR, tel 01362 692989, or e-mail ken.mourin@virgin.net.
